How do I turn my hallway light off from my bed?

Assuming your hallway light is a plug in type lamp; using a simple plug-in Mini-controller on a night stand and a plug-in Lamp Module, you can control ON/OFF/Dim from the comfort of your bed. If the hallway light is a wall switch, simply replacing the switch with an X10 replacement switch will allow you the same convenience.

Why don't all my outlets work in the house?

The X10 signal is reliant upon the electrical AC wire in your home to travel upon, as your home was wired it was connected randomly to both sides of your electrical panel. The signal gets some natural coupling from your appliances and the street transformer, but due to various sizes  of homes and variation of power consumption an additional Coupling device may be needed. Please contact X10 PRO Technical Support at (800) 832-4003 for a solution.

What is the difference between a Lamp and Appliance Module?

A lamp is commonly a 120 volt filamented bulb that has no dimming ability on it's own. Whereas an appliance is just about everything else, i.e. stereo, radio, coffee maker, TV, CD player, fan, etc.

When do I install X10, before or during a building and add-on progress?

Either, or both! It does not make any difference when you install X10! The signal uses the AC power lines in your home as a communications path. Anywhere you have an outlet or a switch location, it is a possible control or receive point for X10!
